Designing the Set Piece - Devlog #3 & 4
Designing a Hotel
The Hotel:
- Hotel is inspired by Hotel de Crillon
- Originally meant to be symmetrical when viewed from the front
- Changed it because adding a corner helps establish goals
The old Layout of the Changed "Left Side":
- I wanted to add different Layers of Security/Difficulty, easily distinguishable by geometry, this helps separate the different layers of security visually
- Helps guide & let the player flow in the right direction towards the goal
Some of the Websites and Images I took as inspiration:
Architectural Digest - Hotel De Crillon
The Landscape:
- Outside bit was part of the original assignment, i decided to keep it because i thought it was nice & helps establish the mission & its goals
- Originally it was supposed to be inside Paris
- Changed to mountains because I personally find the environment more beautiful & fun to design
- It's easier to create a good looking environment, than a city
- Natural Delimiters are very obvious and simple to implement
- Wanted to learn how to use the Landscaping tool in Unreal
Roof:
- Heavily inspired by the Hotel de Crillon
- Yet unused possibilities for gameplay
